It's with many apologies that we finally re-enter the world of cyberspace and an update of the website. Due to some unforseen circumstances the site couldn't be uploaded. This is entirely a webmaster problem and has nothing to do with your hard-working Sask Social Club Board, many of whom have no doubt been wandering in packs with torches trying to find the culprit! Anyhoo, we promise to be more timely on all of this from here on it.

A New Board of Directors

It's not near as acrimonious or goofy as Calgary City Council, but this particular board is a brand new one and promises to not raise any taxes. In fact, with the new lifetime membership fee, the dollar stretches even farther! Without further ado:

President – Jason Zimmerman

Vice President – Matt Verity

Director of Finance – Oralee Wright

Director of Administration – Karen Radyk

Director of Events – Kent Krall

Director of Events – Vicky Bayford

Director of Membership and Communications – Jason Behr

Member at Large – Jayson Deck

The New Board huddles in on the plan.

Rider Game of the Month at Buzzard's/Bottlescrew Bill's:

We tried this last year, and had some success, so we wanted to try it again.  Our feedback was, that people wanted somewhere central to watch the games, somewhere with decent parking, and somewhere that would give us a dedicated area with the sound on.  Well, we found just the place for you!  Buzzard's/Bottlescrew Bill's will be providing us a private area to view the games, happy hour prices, discount on food, and lots of prizes.  Plus, there is ample parking right across the street, and inexpensive since they are all on Saturdays.  Here is the schedule for when we will be there:

Saturday, July 19th @ 5:00pm - Als at Riders
Saturday, Sept. 20th @ 7:30pm  - BC at Riders.
Saturday, Oct. 25th @ 4:30pm - Esks at Riders.

Purchasing Tickets to Rider Games in Calgary

Dear Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan

How about them Riders?  Who would have thought we really were Grey Cup Champions bound when we watched our boys play in Calgary in 2007?  Well it's time to start gearing up for another exciting CFL year.  What's in store for us this year?  We have a new coach, a change in starting QB, and many other changes over the off-season.

Last year we were advised by the Stampeder organization that there would be a change in our ticket purchase program in 2007 which we are now implementing for the 2008 season and on.  These changes are due to policy changes with the Stampeder ticket office with whom we enjoy a very positive and strong relationship.  In prior years we had a payment plan option available to us, which we always took advantage of.  In 2007 we were advised that the Stamps will no longer be able to provide us with this plan.  We are one of the last groups that the Stamps have taken off this plan.  All other perks that we enjoy as a club will continue.  These perks include the ability to select best seats available in the “ Saskatchewan section” of McMahon stadium plus a personal ticket rep who works us with on marketing our block of seats (and occasionally even our tail-gate parties).

What does this change mean?  As a not-for-profit organization the Sask Social Club of Calgary does not have the available finances to purchase their committed block of seats in advance.  All tickets will need to be paid for by the date we are required to pay the Stampeders for the block.  This procedure is based on what we know other large groups are doing in order to secure their block of seats.  One of these groups is very similar in size to the Sask Social Club block.

We realize that this is a significant change from how ticket sales have been managed in the past, which is why we made every effort to communicate this procedural change to you with your 2007 ticket purchase.  This change was actually implemented in 2007 by the Stampeder organization and the Sask Social Club managed to find a way to finance the tickets for both 2007 regular season games.  The financing vehicle used in 2007 is no longer available to the club.

Formalities aside …… THE RIDERS ARE COMING …. THE RIDERS ARE COMING!!!

Game 1                       Saturday August 2 @ 6pm

Game 2                       Monday October 13 @ 2:30pm

The Stampeders view the visits by our boys in GREEN to be premium.  Tickets are $35 each.

E-mail your ticket orders to Jennifer O'Carroll at jennifer.ocarroll@shaw.ca for each game.  Ticket orders for the August 2 game are now closed. Tickets will be ready for pick-up in July.

If you missed out on this deadline, we apologize, but it is part of the new way of doing business with the Stampeders. Ticket orders must be committed and paid for earlier in the process.

Get your orders in now for the October 13 game!

We look forward to you joining us at the games this year.  As we gear up for the upcoming CFL football season and the arrival of summer, we invite you to check this web site for updates on upcoming events.

Saskatchewan Social Club Camping and Slo-Pitch Weekend
What would make a camping weekend better?  Playing some ball also!  We have entered a team into the Blackfalds Roots Ball team Tournament on August 22 nd to 24 th .  So, if you play ball, want to try to play ball, or just want to join us to camp and watch us play, let us know!  This should be a fun weekend.  All the camping is right beside the diamonds.  So, you do not have to drive, just hang out!  Please let us know as soon as possible if you want to join. It will be $30 per person.  And, we may try to fill 2 teams if there is interest.  It is our first time trying this, so we will see how it goes
Wild West Weekend Sold Out!

We had such a good response to this, we did not even have to advertise it much.  We only had 40 spots, and they are all spoken for.  You can still go on the wait list, in case someone backs out though.  Here are details:

COST & DETAILS:

1) CAMPING: Camping in canvas covered wagons circled around a bonfire, just like the old west. Double occupancy and completely enclosed with two singles or a double bed. Sat., Sun. and Mon. nights included. Open the door, drop your dufflebag and crack a beer. It couldn't be any easier.

2) WHITEWATER RAFTING:
Full day of whitewater rafting on the Kicking Horse River on the highest level of rapids allowed.

3) MEALS: Three days of meals included from Sat. afternoon until departure on Tues. AM. Last year we had NY steaks, marinated chicken breasts, sirloin burgers and much more... This year we've got a couple of food connoisseurs eager to impress us with their culinary expertise, so the BBQ style food should be even more delectable than last year.

4) MOUNTAIN BIKING: Now this sounds like work, but it's like skiing - all downhill!!! on the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Pick your runs, green - like coasting down a long meadow, blue - can be challenging but no skills needed, or black diamond - jumps, narrow paths and terrain parks, then ride the gondola back to the top again and let gravity take you back down. It's actually easier than skiing because the bikes have brakes. Top notch bike, protective gear and lift tix included.

All of the above are part of the main package and cost $250 per person (rafting and mtn biking alone would cost you 200). This does not include transportation and beverages. Other than that, your weekend is covered from head to toe.
