The Saskatchewan Social Club was created to give Saskatchewan people now living in Calgary a chance to get together and do fun things. The list below explains the main group of regular events that the SSC puts on. We try to keep the fees as reasonable as possible with the general philosophy to break even on events. SSC members get discounts on entry fees for events. Would you like to volunteer at some of our events? Click here for more info!

The Amazing Rally
Sarurday, April 26

Small Town Pub Crawls
A Saskatchewan Classic! This one is always one of the most popular things we do and the buses sell out FAST! The general way it goes is that we all gather at a saloon somewhere in Calgary to assemble ourselves for the bus ride. A bus captain runs the show and what they say is law! Once all aboard, the bus then winds its way outside of Calgary to a number of small town bars. We spend about an hour in each place, sampling the finest each institution has to offer, before wobbling off to the next stop. The destinations are not shared with the group beforehand, so every trip is an adventure, with the locals just as curious about the gong show in their town as the pub crawlers are about these new and wondrous places. Definitely worth a look! They usually happen around St. Paddy’s Day to add more spice to the occasion, however sometimes we also run a fall Oktoberfest type bus.

Roughrider Games
Our most popular event through the sheer numbers of people who take part. What happens here is that the Sask Social Club buys up a number of seats from McMahon Stadium, with the intent of selling them to Rider fans, so they can all sit together at the game. We’ll book anywhere from 100 – 200 seats for games and groups usually get together and buy the seats. Its also a great way for individual Rider fans to sit with a group of green. The seats are sold to people at or below what they would pay for a walk up ticket. Because of the volume, the SSC, gets a pretty good price, then marks it up a dollar or two so that we can gather before the game (usually at the Banff Trail Community Center – 10 minute walk east of McMahon) have a coupla drinks and tune up for the game.

Rider Rippers
Depending on what day the games are on, the SSC will also put on a Rider party the night before the game. This occurs when there is a Saturday or Sunday game (means a Friday or Saturday night “Ripper”). All it is, is a gathering spot for Rider fans to get together, talk football, listen to the tunes and speak in hushed tones of the rare Stampeder fan they might find in the stands the next day. Sometimes we’ll have Roughrider guests on hand to say hello.

Saskatchewan Scramble Golf
The SSC has done this one for a number of years and it involves a day of pseudo-golf out of town. The last few years we have arranged for a bus to take us to Vulcan’s Golf Club, a place that treats us very well! For your fee, you get a bus ride, nine holes of golf, some in-transit refreshment and a steak dinner to round it all off. The golf itself is a bit unusual as you will be assigned tasks to do throughout the course of the day while trying to hit that little white ball. A great tournament for those who don’t usually do much golfing. Everyone is equally embarrassed!
SSC Bonspiel
We’ve been running this one continuously since 1992 and it is always a lot of fun. Built along the same lines as the golf tournament, it involves a number of 3 end games with little twists thrown to make it interesting (bank board, opposite hand, etc.) It usually takes place on a Saturday afternoon with dinner included afterward. People can register as individuals, but usually teams get together and enter as groups. A great way to try curling without actually feeling too self-conscious about it!

X-Mas Drop-in
Every Christmas season the SSC gathers the troops together at some popular establishment to take in some Christmas spirit. Very low key…a little bit of Christmas spirit…escape the maddening shopping crowds. Usually it happens on the last Friday before people start heading to wherever they go for Christmas. Though the date hasn’t yet been picked for this year yet, you can likely look at the 13th or 19th of December as possible dates. We’ll let you know the spot when we figure it out ourselves.

Legion Drop-in
Now you might be wondering what this is all about. Well… it’s just like it sounds. Once or twice a year the SSC will get together at one of the Legions in town and simply spend the afternoon playing pool, darts, shuffleboard, cribbage and sipping on the cheap drinks. Legions are always interesting places to hang out anyway, then there are those “meat draws”! You’ll have to come out sometime to see what that’s all about.
Car Rally
We’ve done a couple of these and they are a lot of fun. It involves getting together with a carload of people and scavenger hunt your way around town, while hitting assigned check-in points at specific times along the way. The final destination is not known until you hit the last checkpoint.

Other things we have done in the past (and might revisit)
Ricky Bob’s – Go-carts galore. We’ve only done this one once, but it was a blast!
Comedy Nights – Get a group together for Yuk Yuks or something similar.
Beach Party… in January?? – Just like it sounds, tropical gear and sometimes a hot tub outside!
Schanks Sports Day – Indoor fun at Schanks sports bar with all the toys!
Dart Tournaments – Also, just like it sounds
Glow Bowling – Bowling in the dark with balls that are fluorescent.
Halloween Parties – Haven’t done it in a while, but fun when it did take place.
Ball Tournament – It was a lot of fun but was a tough one to organize!

The Club is always open to suggestion as to events, so if you have an idea, just let us know and we’ll see if it’s doable!
